overview
With the introduction of Apple Vision Pro, spatial computing emerged as a new frontier for digital media. As part of an exploratory internship project, I worked with Edenspiekermann to investigate how a news organization like Bloomberg could meaningfully exist within this new medium without simply recreating existing products in a 3D space.
The goal was to demonstrate how spatial computing could unlock new forms of storytelling and information consumption, positioning the agency to speak credibly about the future of news in AR/VR/XR.
context
Working with an uncommitted client
Bloomberg had not yet committed to working with Edenspiekermann, which meant this project needed to demonstrate strategic thinking and collaborative potential, not just creative exploration.
research
Apple Vision Pro
The Apple Vision Pro is Apple’s new AR/VR headset that blends digital content with the physical world. Although the concept is not new, the Vision Pro differs from other headsets as it utilizes eye-tracking, hand gestures, and voice commands to navigate and make selections rather than handheld controls or joysticks.

All-in-one Public Affairs Platform
Bloomberg News offered the most opportunity for exploration because it balances scale, accessibility, and brand authority. As a widely used entry point to the Bloomberg ecosystem, it provided a credible surface to explore how spatial computing could enhance how people consume and understand news.
research
Competitive Benchmarking
I analyzed examples of existing AR/VR technology in industries directly related to Bloomberg, like news media and finance, as well as industries that were tangentially related, like fashion or sports.
The goal was to identify patterns where experiences either succeeded or gaps where experiences failed to move beyond flat screens in 3D space.

CHALLENGE
Defining a credible role for news in spatial computing
The core challenge was to explore how spatial computing could unlock genuinely new value for news media while still preserving the clarity, authority, and familiarity of the Bloomberg brand.
With no predefined constraints or product requirements, the challenge became one of disciplined exploration: identifying ideas that pushed the medium forward without feeling speculative or disconnected from real user needs.
Process
From broad exploration to focused directions
To generate meaningful directions, we began with a wide range of ideas before narrowing down to those with the strongest potential for Bloomberg.
Through collaborative brainstorming and affinity mapping, I synthesized themes across concepts, allowing us to identify opportunities that were both inspiring and grounded in real value for news consumption.

final deliverable
Thought starters for collaborative exploration
Rather than delivering finalized concepts, the final output took the form of “thought starters”—provocations designed to spark discussion and collaborative ideation.
This approach positioned the work as a shared starting point for Edenspiekermann and Bloomberg to explore how spatial computing could create new value for news, while reinforcing the agency’s role as a strategic partner rather than a purely executional one.
The thought starters were organized into four categories, News, Audio, Video, and Others, reflecting different modes of information consumption and allowing each to explore opportunities uniquely enabled by spatial computing.

These represent a selection of the 10 total thought starters created to explore spatial news experiences.
reflection
Takeaways
This project taught me how to explore emerging platforms under ambiguity, using design as a tool for alignment rather than certainty. It reinforced the importance of framing work in a way that invites collaboration, especially when outcomes are still undefined.
Internship Experience
While the majority of this internship was fully remote, the week that Edenspiekermann invited me out to Los Angeles for, to collaborate alongside my mentor, Jens, was such an engaging and fun experience. I learned so much about visual design, research, and the business side of design during my time at Edenspiekermann and I was so blessed to have the opportunity to work alongside such wonderful people!
